When we first met Steve Lee, we barely got out of the car before he strapped his guitar on and was serenading us.
If anyone came prepackaged straight from the factory with extra positive vibes, it is this guy!
Prepared to compress an entire day-in-the-life-of-Mr-Steve into about an hour, Steve led us to a radio station he hosts a morning kids show with, to a tv studio where he had a live appearance on, to a famous Nashville mural by the same artist who painted his guitar, back to his home where we got to catch our breath and talk with Steve about all the good musical things that make him tick.

Mr. Steve’s trusty guitar is also a thing of inspiration and creativity. Adorned with colorful paintings, it brings to life a handful of his own lyrics so that when kids are listening they can sometimes make a visual connection. It was painted by the artist, Leah Tumerman, well known in the Nashville area for painting large murals in the Five Points neighborhood. Her work, familiar to the Nashville community, combines fantasy and a positive message, not unlike Steve’s lyrics and music.

LIGHTNING 100 RADIO SHOW

The Early Birds with Mr. Steve

Steve hosts a morning radio show for kids at Nashville's independently owned, Lightning 100. He explained to us that music is a more palpable medium for kids to access and convey real ideas and information with. "When we get older, we get more reserved. ...with kids, they have no filter. So when music hits, they feel it and they're gonna express themselves."

Musicians On Call

Steve also volunteers with a super inspiring organization called Musicians On Call where he and several other musicians play live music at bedside in healthcare facilities. The organization started in 1999 and has been 'adding a dose of joy' to patients undergoing treatment or unable to leave their beds. "There have been times where I can see that kids are so down when I go in the room and when I leave they are like, 'YEAH!'..."
